RIP Bestie

Yes, he spent the last 30 years trying to live up to his first 29, but I don't care.

George Best was the greatest footballer this country has produced and one of my regrets is that I'm not old enough to have seen him play.

Don't sully the memories with the stupid things he did. Just remember what a genius he was on the football pitch.

I can only agree with your comments that his football was truely fantastic. The Wayne Rooney's and Beckhams of the world do not compare. Its just a shame that as with all the greats they waste themselves or destroy themselves . Maybe thats what made them great, there obsessive personalities led them to strive for something more.
btw i'm too young to recall his genius the first time round too!!

George Best Quote:

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

Thats from someone who treated the press with the contempt they deserve.

My favourite Best quote:

"I saw an advert in a magazine. It said 'Drink Canada Dry'. So I did."
