Arse Gratia Artis

Ooh! $90m knocked off the value of a painting, just like that.

I must say, I know how Steve Wynn must have felt - just not on such a large scale.

When I was about 6 or 7 I accidentally knocked over a vase. The vase was on our TV and the water went down the back of the set. The resulting BANG and plumes of smoke meant no TV for the family for a day or two. And, presumably, no TV for me for a couple of weeks!

Okay, so our TV wasn't a work of art.

So, assuming that Mr Wynn decided to have a career change from Las Vegas property developer to freelance art destroyer, what single work of art would you want him to annihilate?

Steve Wynn should poke his elbow through Edvard Munch's "The Scream." That way, folks would stop stealing it, and we wouldn't have to hear about over and over and over. (This Wynn guy's a hoot, though!)

Most of the artwork I might think in need of destruction wouldn't necessarily be harmed in any aesthetic way by something as simple as an elbow hole. Some stuff might actually appreciate in value depending upon which famous person bumped into it.

OMG, there's an elbow hole in my Warhol. How much for it now?

Mr. Wynn thinks $90m is "running around" money. He'll be okay.

I've never seen a Van Gogh I like. I'm sorry, but I haven't.

P.S. About the TV - I always thought it was the cat what done it...

Jo - Nope, it was me. And I'm only slightly ashamed that, after buying a new colour telly, the old black-and-white, drenched one started working again and was put in my bedroom!

You don't like Van Gogh?!? That's a crime!

Clare - the Emin bird; good call.

MaryB - Munch: I like The Scream, but did he ever do anything else? A bit of a one-hit wonder...

Allen - c'mon man, answer the question!
